Honda Repair: 1999 Honda Civic squealing, cv joints, alternator belt

Question
Car recently started squealing in front of the driver's seat, initially just when braking.  At times it will make this same noise when I'm turning, (my foot is not on the brake), and just tonite it started squealing when I took off from an intersection.  It seems to be happening more freqently and the noise takes longer to go away if that makes any sense.  I just had the rear brakes replaced this weekend and the front ones were checked and I was told they were still at 50%.  In reading about CV joints it sounds like if this was the problem it would be more of a thumping noise.  Any suggestions on what I can check?
Thanks!

Answer
Teri, I think this is a loose alternator belt, power-steering belt, or A/C belt. Have the belts inspected for wear and adjust them properly. This could also be a brake dust shield getting into the way of the rotor itself. When this happens your exact symptoms will occur. (I know because i have done this so many times :) This could have been a result of the tech that inspected your front brakes. Have the front brake dust shields inspected and adjusted too.
