Honda Repair: 1986 accord rough idle, phillips head screwdriver, car idles

Question
My 86 accord DX has 113 M miles and runs great except for rough idle in drive
when at a stop.  Car idles in neutral and in reverse very smoothly! I have
changed engine mounts, rebuilt carburetor and done a tune up. Still, when
stopped in drive, its very rough. Can it be a transmission problem?
Thanks, John M.

Answer
John, have your timing and idle set by a professional. I would not consider this a problem with your transmission. There are specific details to follow when setting the idle and making sure that the timing is exactly set. Make sure whoever you are paying to perform this service is qualified to do so. If you have a timing light and a phillips head screwdriver and a friend you can set this yourself.
