Honda Repair: 1990 crx 1.5 missing prob., honda civic crx, air control valve

Question
QUESTION: 1990 honda civic crx hf. 1.5. when the car is first started it runs like a champ. but as the car warms up it starts to miss. i have put a new head gasket in it and have a professional time the car. but i noticed that when you push the gas pedal down just a hair as if you were trying to stay at a constant speed while driving a ticking noise comes from what seems to be a vacuum solenoid and starts to miss. also when you give it alot of gas the missing stops and runs fine. it only misses around 1500 and 2200 rpm's. Help please

ANSWER: Mitchell, is your car throwing any check engine codes? Has the car in the past? Is your car a california emissions vehicle? It should say under your hood somewhere if you have the original hood. If i had to guess off hand with minimal information provided i would suspect the EGR valve to start with. Next check the IACV (Idle air control valve). Then have your timing and idle set by a professional. This should keep you busy for a while. Let me know in a follow up question if you need more areas to diagnose.

QUESTION: The car is not pulling up any check engine codes. The sticker on the
hood is gone. Your reply was very helpful. Where would the EGR valve be
at on the car??

Answer
The EGR valve will be located on the passenger side of the intake manifold. Should have an electrical wire (1 or 2 pin) plugged into it and a small vacuum line coming off the top of the unit. But, is your CR-X an automatic transmission model? If yours is a manual you will not have this. Then you will be classified as an EGR delete 1990 Honda CR-X HF. If yours is an automatic and you do have an EGR valve then yours would be considered a California emissions model.

Might be worth looking into? Seems like alot of work but was helpful and informative at the least. Are you 100% sure the car is not throwing a code? You know how to check the codes right?

My 1991 Honda Civic 4D sedan is a California emissions car because i have an automatic and an EGR valve. Let me know what you find?
