Honda Repair: 1986 Honda Accord (carb), air fuel mixture, adjustment screws

Question
Attempting to adjust the air/fuel mixture, is the screw behind the slotted plug on the firewall side of the carb.? If so what does it take to remove that plug? Thank you for any help you can send my way.

Answer
Mark, just depends on which model carbs that you have. Some models came with a idle-mixture adjustment screw. Some models don't have it.
They have other sorts of adjustment screws. I've never seen a Honda carburetor without a mixture screw. However, on many models, Honda installed a metal guard type plug over the mixture screw. The mixture screw can still be accessed but the plug has to be removed first and this usually requires removing the carburetor since the screw is at the bottom back end of the carburetor next to the firewall.

Find some numbers on the carb somewhere and contact Honda they will tell you what carbs you have. Once you have the exact 100% knowing of which carbs they are you can research online for the manuals for properly adjusting and setting idle for this particular model.

You can guess all day long, but, trial and error is time consuming. And you could possibly over adjust or adjust a screw that shouldn't be adjusted. Good luck.
