Honda Repair: Honda accord need maintenance light, honda service center, service interval

Question
Hi
For a 1997 Honda accord..the need maintenance light went on.  What does this most likely indicate? Do I have to bring it to a Honda service center to check this out?
132K mileage.
  Thanks. Steve

Answer
Steve this is a basic courtesy light indicating maintenance is required. Whether this is an oil change indicator or regular service interval. The owners manual might have a little more detailed information for you. Basically nothing to worry about. You do not have to take it to a Honda dealership for service unless you want too. I would recommend taking it to a local auto parts store - Napa or AutoZone. They will check this out for you and clear the codes for you for free.
