Honda Repair: Cooling Fans not coming on, ipdm, nissan quest

Question
Hi there. I have a 2005 Nissan Quest. The a/c does not work when stopped because the fans are coming on. I tested the fans and sometimes they do come on, indicating they are OK. I have replaced the IPDM after the action test proved that the fans did not come on after (indicating IPDM failure) It did not solve. Sometimes i can go in and give a little push to the fan and it works, then once the car starts again it stops. Now I am totally lost. Any ideas?

thanks

Answer
Marcio, i am a Honda expert not Nissan. But, in my experiences with this similar problem I would start with the cheapest fix first. Which it sounds like you have done so. I do not know what a IPDM failure is. Sounds like a relay or sensor of some sort. Next the fans activate when the engine temperature reaches a certain point or there is a load required (A/C). This could be a damaged wire issue but, doubtful. If there is a break in the wire the correct current load would not reach the fans therefore not spinning. Check all connections and inspect there points of contact and clean those surfaces. You can try and let the car idle with no A/C on until the engine warms up and see if the fan or fans are coming on. I do not know about Nissan's but, Honda's the main fan will come on and the other fan will come on only when the A/C system is activated. This will tell you whether this is an A/C issue or main fan issue. Last replace the fans altogether.
