Honda Repair: transmission, torque converter, honda accord

Question
I have a 96 honda accord automatic (4Cly.) that will not shift
out of drive.  I used the key to unlock the shift and could shift.
i didn't do anything with the key in the first place.  after the car would shift out of gear, i went eight miles to get a bite.  I
couldn't shift the car out of park and had to use the key again.  The transmission always shiffted fine, but now is jerking.  the car has 107,300 on it.  what do you think the problem may be?

Answer
James, obviously there are some issues going on. Have you checked the ATF fluid level? Is it a pink color? Or is it brown and gritty? Smell the fluid for a scent of burnt unpleasent odor. The transmission fluid should be red/pink in color period. Solenoids on the transmission can keep the transmission from releasing the gears. The cable could be out of adjustment. The torque converter is probably the issue here. They go out around 120K miles if not regularily maintained. Unfortunately this can cause the transmission to fail as well. I would recommend not driving the car unless absolutely necessary. Therefore saving you some money from an unforseen tow bill.
