Question
QUESTION: Travis:
My trans shifts out fine hot or cold. The problem is that just when I put the trans in the PARK position it makes a quick scratchy sound(sounds like when a flywheel may be rubbing on the bellhousing). This is also heard sometimes when shifting into DRIVE. The metal to metal sound comes and goes instantanously.
The trans is filled to the mark with fresh fluid. Please let me know what you think.

ANSWER: Frank, common noise on older Honda automatics. Basically the clutches inside the transmission are settling together. No worries unless it gets louder and more excessive.

QUESTION: Travis, I neglected to ask if driving the car perhaps on a daily basis would help. For over a year we have been working on it, replacing some $1700.00 worth of parts  as we could and most of that time it has been sitting in the garage.
It has been driven only sporatically, a few miles a month. My question is, do you think driving it will help to quieten it down? We may sell the car and it would help if I could tell a potential buyer that it will quiten down with some driving. Of course I will not tell them that, if driving won't help it.Your opinion please.
I want to thank you again for your help. Have a nice weekend. Frank

ANSWER: Frank, definitely putting some miles on the car is a wise decision. You want to be able to make sure you don't have any problems or needed adjustments. You can adjust the shifter cable too as needed as well.

QUESTION: Travis:
Part of the $1700 worth of parts put on the Prelude was a brand new shifter cable to the tune of $160.00.I wonder how much tension should be on it? Tight, medium or just a little tighter than slack. There is absolutely no problem with the shifting of the trans. It easily moves into the various shifting positions. It's just that darned metal to metal grinding sound that lasts only a second when I shift to various gear designations. Thanks again. frank

Answer
Frank, then it sounds like you are good to go. Adjustment isn't really a matter of tension but comfort. When pressing/depressing the clutch pedal. Its all personal choice. Some guys want the clutch to engage right off the floor asnd others want a little more slack. You can try some synthetic fluid in the transmission too? Worth a shot...
