Honda Repair: 1986 Civic stops running w/ no warning, dash lights, logjam

Question
Tom...

I am having probs with my 1986 Civic 1.3 (carb). It starts right up, runs good for about 10 miles, then just stops running. Cuts right out at 55 mph w/out any warning. After about an hour it starts again, and runs like nothing is wrong.

Getting fuel OK and none of the fuses are blown. The best Honda mech in town can't figure it out either. It has NEVER done this in the 24 years I've owned it. Help!

Answer
Logjam, not 100% familiar with 1987 and prior civic's. But, if i had to guess, with as little information as you have provided - fuel pump. Or electrical? When it dies does your dash lights remain on or do you completely lose power? How does the car specifically 'stops running'? More information needed to properly diagnose the problem you are having. The more info = the more i can narrow down or eliminate. 1987 and prior have less to go wrong with them and should be easier to diagnose. Which model do you have? How many miles? Any recent service done? Any major accidents? Etc. hope this helps and get back to me...
