Honda Repair: Honda Accord wont start after running out of gas., turning the key, honda accord

Question
I ran out of gas.  I put some back in but it won't start.  my neighbor told me it was because it was a 2001 Accord it is fuel injected and has to be "reset" to get it to start again.  I called the dealer and asked if there was a place under the hood to pour some gas in to get it to start.  They said yes, but won't tell me where it is because they "don't recommend" owners pour gas on anything!  Help, I know this is going to cost more than necessary and I am pretty adept at following instructions.  I am single woman and have had to do repairs on my cars in the past.  can you help me?

Answer
Jana, how many miles are on your Accord? It is not uncommon to runout of gas and then the fuel pump fails. Requiring repolacement. But, if your Accord doesn't have more than 100K miles on it this would be an unlikely cause. Are you on a hill? Add more gas into the tank but not more than 5 gallons. Yes your car is fuel injected. Add more gas. Turn the key to the on position. Don't start/turn-over yet. Turn key off and on. You should hear the fuel pump activate. If you don't hear the fuel pump activate (which is hard to hear) then your fuel pump is not turning on. But turning the key on and off should prime the system. If your car is a manual try 'pop starting' the engine. Other than that i don't know what else to tell you but take in for service. Hope this helps u...
