Honda Repair: proporting valve, honda accord v6, road grime

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2006 Honda accord V6 with 75000.
I have never replaced the front brake pads, and they still look brand new. I changed the rear at 60000. When I have it up on Jacks, I can apply the brakes and the front wheels do stop. Is it possible that the brake proportioning valve is bad. The car drives fine and seems to stop fine. I have never seen this before, I always thought that the front brakes handled most of the stopping power.

ANSWER: Michael, Honda's brake proportioning valves are set at 60/40 with some 70/30. Whichever your rear brakes should wear out slower than the fronts - since the motor and most of the weight of the vehicle is over the front end of the vehicle. Did you purchase the vehicle brand new? If not, i would assume the pads and/or rotors were turned or replaced at 40/30K. Proportioning valves are not usually a cause of premature rear brake wear. Rocks and road grime are. Is your Honda a V6 or 4 cylinder?

QUESTION: It's a V6, and I purchased it brand new. It's not that the rear pads are wearing out prematurely(60,000miles). It's the fact that I now have 75,000 miles on the car and the front has never been touched and still look brand new.

Thanks, Michael

Answer
Kinda hard for me to believe that... have you miced the pads to see how thick they are? You can pop a pad out and mic it for wear. Then compare to a brand new spec and i'll bet you would be surprised at the results. Front pads are thick on that car due to the V6. I wouldn't consider the proportioning valve as of yet. But, a brake fluid system bleed might be in order?
