Honda Repair: Ashtray light bulb, phillips screws, dx models

Question
hi! I have a 96 honda accord, and was wondering how you replace the little lightbulb behind the ashtray?
It looks as if there is just a hole and no place for the lightbulb to go, Please help!!

Answer
Shawna, depends on the model Accord you own. Dx models did not even come equipped with an ashtray light. But since your asking you probably noticed that the light is not on anymore. Since there is a hole and no plug to place the light into; the light bulb housing could have come undone from its location. (The light could be on still as well.) You need to access the phillips screws that hold the ashtray housing in place. Remove the ashtray itself. There should be a couple screws possibly 3 holding the ashtray housing in place. If you can remove these do so. If the housing does not remove easily then there is a screw you cannot get too. Then remove the trim pieces surrounding the entire center console to gain further access to the remaining screws. Once you remove the ashtray housing you should see light bulb housing, bulb and some wires. Check the dash lights to verify the bulb is burnt or working. The light bulb housing is inserted into the ashtray housing and turns clockwise to lock it into place. The bulb itself can be removed by extracting it from the bulb housing. Will be difficult to do. Simply pull it straight out. The bulb is tiny too and most auto parts stores don't carry this exact bulb on the shelves. Hope this helps you...
