Honda Repair: 1996 honda accord ex 2.2 automatic, honda accord ex, torque converter

We have a car in the shop that is giving us fits with the transmission. It will start out and run for about a mile then stop pulling, you can turn it off and sit there for a minute and then fire it back up stick in gear and go for about another mile then stop pulling again.
They have already changed the torque converter, recently replaced the input speed sensor and fluid and filter.
Do you have any good directions to run?

Is the check engine light on in the instrument cluster?
If yes, what is the code stored in the ECM(Electronic Control Module?
Why did "They" just change the torque converter?
Does the engine race when it stops pulling?
or
Does the engine simply shut off?
What is the mileage on the vehicle?
Have the transmission fluid services been performed on the vehicle regularly?
Are you the original owner of this vehicle?
