Honda Repair: 1990 Honda accord lx with oil light on, honda accord lx, electrical fuses

Question
QUESTION: Several times my oil light on my 1990 Honda accord lx has come on and the car starts to overheat.  I have clean oil and it is full.  I thought it might be the oil pump needs to be replaced but one mechanic told me no.

Any ideas?

Thanks

ANSWER: Well after 24 years with Honda, I have yet to see a "Bad" oil pump, although it is not an impossibility.
However, you have two different problems.
The overheating could be caused by several items as follows:
1)Thermostat stuck.
2)Thermosensor, aka:Fan Switch inoperative.
3)Fan(s) motor(s) inoperative.
4)Fan relays inoperative.
5)Coolant leak(s).
6)Radiator or radiator cap.
7)Cooling system electrical fuses and wires.
Now for the oil light coming on I will do some research and I will get back with you as soon as I have something more than just a "Guess".
Just let me know if the oil light comes on while turning or driving straight.

QUESTION: The oil light starts to flicker when I am idleling or driving forward slowly, if I sit idle for long, the temp starts to rise and as soon as i start to move in begins to drop to normal

ANSWER: Please send all the information below.
Vehicle mileage
Vehicle engine condition.
How often has the oil change been performed throughout the life of the vehicle?
Is there sludge in the valve train?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Vehicle mileage is about 180K, we had some problems with the transmission and it was rebuilt by a certified mechanic, we still have to replace the gear shift cable since it is a little slow in engaging the reverse and releasing the key when cold.

The oil has been changed with filters religiously every 3,000 miles.

If by sludge in the valve train you mean on top of the block on the outside, there is non visible, I have not taken the valve cover off.

Answer
No I meant sludge inside the engine, like on the valve train under the valve cover.
Have you checked the alternator output amperage?
If the alternator does not sufficiently charge the battery (Amperage Too LOW or Too HIGH), the warning lights will come on, due to ICU(Integrated
Control Unit) not reading the correct voltages.
Also check the oil pressure sending unit. Located above the oil filter. Check that the one pin connector fits snug on the pin.
