Honda Repair: prelude si, valve guides, proper maintenance

Question
does the  89 prelude si motor have problems with guide seals or valve guides that cause them to smoke after sitting of idling and hit the throttle but stops smoking shortly there after?

Answer
Mike, what color is the smoke? Is your car properly warmed up? Whitish looking is condensation. Bluish looking is oil. Black/charcoal looking is deposits burning out/off. How many miles and what is the history for this engine? Was it raced or abused? Was the engine properly maintained? There are alot of variables to this question and I hope this helps. But, in general these motors should hit 150K - 200K with proper maintenance and adjustments and not smoke.
