Honda Repair: Oil Leak, pb blaster, nuts bolts

Question
My 1998 Honda Civic EX is dropping oil in my garage.  I checked the bolts and can't locate the exact source of leak.  I'm assuming it's the oil pan gasket.  If so, can you explain what needs to be done to replace the gasket.  Is it something I can do or does it require a mechanic?

Answer
Dan, depends on your expertise level? Can you change your oil? Do you have basic tools, (metric preferred,) and an appropriate area to work in? Then you can do it! Support the car on jack stands appropriately and according to the manufacturer's specs. Then drain all oil and remove the filter. Next, remove the Exhaust manifold in sections. There should be 3 or 4 14mm nuts/bolts towards the front of the car. Remove them. Prior to removal spray and let soak with WD-40 or PB Blaster. Do the same to the Exhaust manifold at the end where it connects to the Catalytic converter. I believe these are a 12mm or 14mm nuts/bolts. Spray these down and let soak prior to removal. Remove the section of pipe. Remove all 10mm nuts/bolts around the base of the Oil pan. Pry down and remove. Remove gasket and thoroughly clean surface for the new gasket to be installed. Installation is the opposite.
