Honda Repair: 1996 Honda Accord EX, phillips screws, replacement knobs

Question
Just purchased this used car.  All seems ok but light on instrument panel is not working.  How do you replace and where is it located?  Is it an easy task or should I have mechanic replace?  Also, the A/C dial knob stems are cracked on both the fan and temp.  Had to change with pliers.  Hopefully purchasing replacement knobs will fix the problem.  Thanks for any and all help!

Answer
The instrument panel has a couple of different bulbs, so that would mean that it has a bad fuse or your instrument panel probably has a bad connection at the plug. Check your fuse's. To check those you can either get a test light and touch the contacts on top of the fuse to see if there good or pull out each of them individually and visually check them. If all of the fuse's are good then you possibly have a bad connection at the plug for the gauges. You would have to pull out the gauge panel to gain access to it. There are two phillips screws for the bezel trim take those out and pull out the trim. Then there will be either 2 or 4 screws holding the gauges in place. Remove those screws and pull out the gauges as far as you can and still have access to the plug on top. Wiggle the plug a little and see if the lights come on.  If so your problem is right there. If not I would have a professional take a look at it to start tracing wires.
