Honda Repair: Honda Accord 99 : fuel filter, honda accord 99, honda accord ex

Question
QUESTION: I wrote you a couple of weeks ago with my Honda Accord EX fuel problems. The car was killing while idling and/or accelarating.  It always starts right back up. You mention it maybe a fuel filter, injectors, or regulator pressure. I cleaned out the idle control with carberator cleaner but this did not solve the problem.  I bought the fuel filter in the tank, and had a mechanic replace it. We drove it for four days and the lights came on a couple of times like it was going to kill, but it didn't.  We noticed that the fuel gauge is fluctuating from 1/2 to E. This morning it went pass "E". Please advise the next step to do.  The mechanic said he would be guessing, since no lights are staying on in the dash. What do you think?

ANSWER: Hi, I am not the guy that you originally contacted but I am willing to try and answer or guide you in the right direction. First off, my last recommendation would have been to replace your fuel pump. Why, you ask? (The in-tank fuel filter is always the most expensive and difficult to replace.) In my opinion I would have started with replacing the fuel filter. Then, if that didn't solve your problem I would try a fuel-injection pressurized cleaning service that can be done at any major repair shop. In addition, what altitude do you live at? If it is a higher climate, 2500ft plus, this might be an issue. If not, don't worry about it. The answer to your fuel gauge fluctuation question could be a variety  of scenario's. First, this could be an issue with your ECU (most expensive), second, possibly an electronic issue meaning an unclipped plug or sensor, and third, was this a sudden oncoming of symptoms? Or where their signs as well?

QUESTION: I am still having trouble with my Honda Accord EX 99'4 cylinder. The car was killing at a red light or idleing for a long period of time. It always starts right back up and this only happens about twice a week at most.  I removed and cleaned the idle control and re-installed it.  I thought I had it fix and it start doing the same thing again.  This time I bought the fuel filter kit from Honda and had a shop replace it for me. It drove great for three day and then it started again only a little different.  The lights would come on the dash like it was ready to kill but It would stay running.  I put some injector cleaning in the fuel tank and filled it up with gas.
Today, it did something totally different; the ABS light came on in the dash, and so we rode with it on for about four miles.  When coming to a red light, the car killed. Then it started right back up and only ran for one second.  It killed again, doing the same thing for three consecutive times.  Finally it stayed running and the ABS light then went off and stayed off.  My wife got home and turned off the engine, she wanted to see if it was going to kill again so she started it back up and it killed in one second. Then she started it again, killed in one second, then she waited four seconds and cranked it again.  This time it stayed running.  No lights came on in the dash when she was in the driveway. This problem is really scary for my wife and seven year old, I need to get this problem resolved immediately.  Please give me your EXPERT advice. Do you think it could be a electronic problem?

Answer
Hi again Michael, i would definitely suspect an electrical problem. More than a mechanical malfunctioning. This vehicle definitely needs some Troubleshooting and diagnostic time. My recommendation is using a shop that is reputable with repairing Honda's or take to the dealer. The Honda dealer will troubleshoot and diagnose the problem or problems. Remember don't have any services done just pay for the diagnostics because generally you can purchase parts cheaper or get it done yourself. I hope this helps you...
