Honda Repair: horn, steering wheel, 1988 honda civic

Question
how do you repair the horn in a 1988 honda civic dx

Answer
well.. horns are in the bumper. one on each side under the headlight area. maybe more to the inside, but should be easy to see if so.

first, if there is anything else that doesnt work you should check the obvious: fuses.

next, the ground is in the steering wheel. you will have to take it apart and check the tab. it is a 1/2" or so metal piece that sticks out and rides along the column as the wheel turns. it could have broken off. this is the most likely because if it was a horn, both arent going to die at the same time.
the steering wheel comes off with a 19mm socket (perhaps a 17 on that car). just make sure to mark the splines before pulling it off.

the next option would be checking power to the horns.

this is a rather easy thing to fix but difficult to describe well. if it does turn out to need horns make sure to mount them facing down so water doesnt collect in them.
honestly sometimes even the simple things arent worth screwing with yourself. especially if you dont have the tools or knowledge in electrical. a decent shop shouldnt charge much to figure this out for you.
