Honda Repair: 91 Honda Prelude BB1 Vtec, 91 honda prelude, coolant temp

Question
Hi, about once a month when the car is warm i have trouble starting it. When it does start it takes off in top gear, if i stop turn the car off it will correct itself. Sometimes the four wheel steer won't work, until i stop and restart.  Alan.

Answer
VTEC ?

a hot soak start problem will most likely be either the main relay under the dash or the coolant temp sensor.
the relay is a double wide, 8prong plug under the drivers side dash. we dont really see many preludes lately so i cant tell you exact.
the sensor is on the side of the head under the dist. a 2prong plug.
the next time it wont restart when hot you can tap the relay or unplug the sensor to see which it is.

the automatic problem... there is no way i could answer that over the net. would need to see it.

and the steering is not possible to not work. it is mechanical.
