Honda Repair: engine seems to loose compression when starting sometimes, fuel pressure regulator, honda service

Question
Once is a great while my 2000 Honda Accord EX V6 Coupe with about 98k miles on it will be fussy about starting. That is, it acts like it isn't getting fuel, it shudders, there seems to be no compression. I keep giving it gas and it goes away but it takes a bit before it gets an idle. Any ideas?

Answer
Hi John,

This sounds like a similar situation that I have ran into before on the V6 Accord. I fact I'm online now searching for the Honda service bulletin # because Honda actually acknowledged that there is a problem on certain vehicles within a certain vin range. The fix for the problem is to replace the fuel pressure regulator and the PCM. The repairs can be done by you but you would have to have the immobilizer reprogrammed. Do some research online yourself about Honda Technical Service Bulletin # 00-024. This outlines the repair procedure and the affected vehicles. If you need a copy of the bulletin I could e-mail that to you as well. Hope this helps! Feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions!
