Honda Repair: 2001 honda accord, side bearings, manufacturers warranty

Question
my 2001 honda accord has a bent axle and is leaking transmission fluid. i have had the car for 3 yrs and it has not been wrecked so I don't understand how the axle got bent. I understand that there is an extended manufacturers warranty on the transmission to 109,000 (my car has 72k) so i am taking it to the dealer who I am hoping will replace trans. at no cost to me. the prob is the axle...is there any way the transmission torque could have caused the axle to bend? even if the car was in an accident before i got it, i dont think it would run fine for 3 years and then go kaput?

Answer
Hi Lynn,

I can tell you I have put in many a Honda Accord transmission and I have never seen a bent axle cause a leak. The problem I have seen is the differential side bearings go bad and the axle then has play. This play causes the transmission to leak past the axle seal. This condition isn't very common but I have seen it quite a few times. This should be covered by the dealer extended warranty. Hope this helps!
