-----Question-----
how do i get a transmission out of 89 accord? i got it completely unbolted but it still won't come out
-----Answer-----
are the axles removed from both sides? did you unbolt the intermediate shaft on the back side of the engine? i would reccommend purchasing a Chilton Repair manual for your vehicle. it has pictures and step by step instructions on how to remove and replace your transmission. just make sure everything is removed. also there is a black cover on the underside of the motor. remove it with 10mm socket and did you remove the bolts off the flywheel? there should be 10 of them. also 10mm. hope this helps.

Answer
is it manual or auto? either way the cable is called the shift linkage. drop the trans as far as you can to the floor. it is easier to take a transmission out from the bottom. just get a real high jack or put blocks on top of the jack to increase height. use another jack to lower the transmission slowly to the ground. if auto take out the torque converter first then use a pair of pliers to take out the little cotter pin on the back of the transmission on the inside. then use the pliers to pull the cable forward and out. then it should all come right out. if it is manual you might have to just uunbolt it from the shifter and remove the whole linkage until you can get a good look at it. there should be two 10mm bolts holding the linkage in. hope this helps.
