Honda Repair: P0420, and P0401, exhaust gas recirculation, heat sensors

Question
Hey Rusty, I have been having problems with my EGR apparently, the code I get for this at auto zone are the P0420, and P0401.  Are these things I can fix in the driveway with simple tools or do I need to pay big money and take them in somewhere?  I have hesitation problems, and smoke coming out my exaust...I get insufficient flow in the exhaust gas recirculation system, and the catalyst system efficiency for bank 1 is below threshold for the current engine operating conditions.  I have a 1997 Prelude (I believe it is the reg. model not SH).  Thanks for any help you can offer.--Chip

Answer
OK. . . Pull the plugs off the exhaust manifold to disable heat sensors and check the cat converter, Very simple. cat converter is restraining the engine causing the computer to do stupid things, Replace the cat converter and you should be fine.

Hope ive been of some help

Cheers RUSTY
