Honda Repair: Another Overheating Question-Rather Long, 93 honda prelude, honda prelude

Question
Like the previous poster, I have a '93 Honda Prelude Si (not a 4ws).  I have been experiencing overheating (?) problems as well.  As you may know I have a digital temp. gauge and at normal operating temperature, it runs dead center (don't actually know what that temp. is).  While I'm driving through town (usually with the A/C on) mine will rise to one white space beyond dead center stay on about 30 seconds then fall back to dead center.  I've had someone look at it and just to keep it from getting too hot while on the road (I drive about 80 miles round trip to work) he took the thermostat out.  I figured while the t-stat was out I'd have a powerflush done and see if this helped at all.  It seems not only not to help but the temperature actually rose to the 3/4 point this time (with an outside temp of only 86 degrees)!  Both of the fans do work but, they seem to come on simultaneously when the A/C is on and only one will come on unless it gets really warm and then the other will click on.  However, even with this escalated temp. the fans don't come on if I shut the car off.

If you could offer a suggestion it would be much appreciated.  I did read another post that was done on an overheating issue and saw where you gave a possible solution of a t-stat housing switch.  Do you think this might be one of my issues?  I've had a condensor fan replaced but not a radiator fan.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Answer
When these fans come on, both fans should be on at all times.  It won't operate just one fan and not the other.  Also it has to get pretty hot before the fans will come on when you turn the vehicle off.  Most likely with yours almost to the red.  I would let the engine idle with the A/C on and make sure that both fans are coming on all the time.  When you are driving it shouldn't be a problem but when you are in traffic it probably will get hot.  Also, put that thermostat back in there.  The engine will not run as good without it.  Your fuel mileage will suffer without that thing.  Also make sure the coolant level is completely full and there is no air in the system.  Most likely why it got hotter today.
