Honda Repair: I have a 91 honda accord dx...., honda accord dx, 91 honda accord

I have a 91 honda accord dx. For some reason when I shift into D it will only find second gear. The transmission light comes on and stays on. This problem began about two years ago but would only occur if the weather was hot(odd) but would go away after the vehicle warmed(odder).  But now it's doing this frequently and allowing the vehicle to idle to warm up doesn't solve the problem as it did in the past.  Suggestions?

By far the most common problem with that car is the tranmission control unit (TCM).  They go bad and it quits shifting and is stuck in 2nd gear.  That controler is about $600 so I would make sure of it but that would be my first thing to check.  You will have trouble finding a used one because that is a very common problem for 90-91 accords.
