Honda Repair: Gross Oil Leak, balancer shaft seal, 4 quarts

Question
1996 Honda Accord EX 161,000 Miles

PLEASE HELP!

My car is leaked a trail of oil into my driveway and it lost 4 quarts of oil. It's leaking from front of engine (opposite transmission end). What could be leaking and what do you think I'm looking at on repair charges?

Answer
Sounds like you blew out the balancer shaft seal behind the timing cover.  Very common problem for this model.  There was a recall a few years ago that corrected this problem but it was only for a few years.  YOu will need to get the timing belt and seals replaced.  Depending upon where you get it done it will cost anywhere between 400-650.  Do not drive it anywhere because the oil is leaking out very fast and you will damage the engine if you run it out of oil.
