Honda Repair: a/c repair, spray water, refrigerant

Question
Hi, Rick, Thank you for the previous advice it worked but now i have another
problem. I have a 2000 civic w/134500 mi. When I sprayed water on the
condenser the low side dropped from 30 to 25 psi and the high side dropped
from 150 to 125 psi. I am not sure what the normal pressure should be for
both sides. It is really cold now. After I bled out some refrigerant, which I
hope wasn't to much, the low side is now reading 19 psi and the high is 105.
I am also hearing a noise, like pressure being relieved, in the evaporator
when it cycles out. The a/c runs great for about 40 mins then cycle off and
won't come back on. I have to turn the a/c switch off for 3-5 mins then turn it
back on and it works great for another 40 mins. What do you believe the
problem is and do you think i bled to much out ? Also , when  I spray water
on the condeser the low side drops to around 15 psi. Does that mean I have
to much pressure still ? Can you tell me where I can get a good book on this
a/c system ?
Thank you
Steve

Answer
Steve, I think you're almost there, the low side is reading pretty good but your high side is now too low indicating you probably let to much refrigerant out. That noise you're haearing is somewhat normal depending on how loud it is. It's refrigerant circulating through the system. If much louder than normal it's 1 of 2 things, you either have too much refrigerant which we know is not the case or there's moisture in the system. I suggest having it evacuated properly and then give it the proper amount of charge and see what happens. The reason I'm suggesting this is because if you have too much moisture the evaporator could be freezing causing the compressor not to cycle(any temp below 3C(37F) turns off the clutch). Let me know, RICK
