Honda Repair: a/c repair, honda civic lx, 2000 honda civic lx

Question
I have a 2000 Honda civic Lx 134,000 miles. The a/c works
intermitenly. It blows cold air for about 5 min, then cycles in and
out for about 6 to 7 times.. then it cycles out and stays out. I
have to punch the a/c button (turning off the a/c ) wait about 2
to 3 min and then punch it back on and it works again. Then I
start the whole thing over again. I replaced the cycling switch
and it improved alittle but still have the same problem , though,
not as bad. The gauges read Low 28-32 and the high 180 - 185
as it cycled in and out. What do you think the problem is ?

Answer
Steve, both sides seem a bit high in pressure. Check the condenser fins for restricted air flow and check condenser fan operation. If they're O.K. watch the low side pressure while you cool the condenser with water. If it lowers there's too much refrigerant in the system. Good luck, RICK
