Honda Repair: 95 civic AC high pressure/ low cooling /yet good freon, flow restriction, differences in temperature

Question
My civic lx has 112K on it and the freon seems to be full with no leaks. the pressure runs high at about 250-350 but drops rapidly with water sprayed into the fins. I am guessing there is a restriction somewhere. Is there a common replacement for this (hopefully common) problem? Otherwise, what tests might I need to run to isolate the culprit. PS, the green light in the dash comes on now but no compressor actuation...thanks for sharing your wisdom Rick.

Answer
Dan, no there's no common problem in those model year A/C systems I've seen. You're on the right track. Is the condenser fan coming on when the compressor engages? That fan should run whenever the compressor runs. When you spray water through it thats what you're simulating. If the fan is working then you either have a restriction either through the condenser(bugs, bent fins(air flow restriction), internally etc.) or a restriction somewhere through the A/C system itself(line). If its a line you could try feeling with your hand the differences in temperature along the lines or condensation in one spot and on the same line there's nothing. Good luck, RICK
