Honda Repair: Honda Accord 2000, brake lights, trailer lighting, trailer harness

Question
Hi, Rick.
Brake light indicator on dashboard came ON.
I replaced burnt Left brake light bulb. A few minutes later the same thing. I replaced burnt
Right brake bulb. A few minutes later it stopped working. The bulbs I used are 12 V, #168 = the same as original.
Please help.
Thanks - Peter.

Answer
Peter, what exactly stopped working(all the brake lights?)Check to see if the high mount brake light works. If it doesn't chances are you have a power supply problem. At the brake pedal there's a switch that when the pedals depressed supplies 12V via a wht/blk wire to the brake light failure sensor, the high mount and to the trailer lighting connector.Check for 12V there(the wht/blk wire at the switch with the pedal depressed)If theres no power there let me know. Check for 12V at the brake light(s)(green wire for the left and right, wht/blk for the high mount) with the pedal depressed. If there's power there and the lights still don't come on check your ground(blk wire) If you don't have power at the bulb sockets and the high mount works you may have a brake light failure sensor problem or if equipped with a trailer hitch try disconnecting the trailer harness. Let me know if this helps, RICK
