Honda Repair: Control Arm bushings, shock fork, lower arm

Question
Hi,
I recently had a checkup and was told both my front lower control arm bushings are cracked.  I was just curious as to how vital a repair this is and if it can be put off or is there any possible danger it poses.

Thanks

Answer
Brian, What year and model? There is cracked and then there is worn out where the collar actually seperates from the bushing and wears the rubber out. If they were worn out I would replace them because of the knocking noise they would make and if they are the inner bushings they will affect the inner and outer movement of the bottom of the tire and could pose a hazard. If they are just weather cracked I wouldn't be to concerned, have a look and see. There are 2 bushings in each lower arm(most common vehicles) 1 bolts to the lower shock fork and the other bolts to the sub frame of the car. If they are worn you will see either the fork or the arm in a kinked position. good luck. RICK
