Honda Repair: Honda odessy, honda odessy, safety function

Question
I have a 2000 odessy ex. One of my sliding doors will not open properly. It opens with much difficulty then stops. The alarm sounds then closes, the alarm sounds again. Honda is telling me the electric motor must be changed at a cost of $1000 cdn. I have training in autobody. Could I do it myself or doyou have a better idea of what could be the problem? Please help!!

Answer
Philippe, when the door opens or closes it has a trap detection feature that works by the control unit monitoring the revolution sensor which is housed in the drive unit(motor). This sensor tells the control unit if there's a reduction in speed and then reverses the door in the opposite direction. If there is a restriction causing the door to move slowly it may be triggering this safety function. MAKE sure there are no seized rollers, tracks are lubricated properly and the door is adjusted properly. These may be things causing your concern. If the beeper beeps 3 times that means it's detecting an obstruction. Have you tried turned the main switch off and tried opening the door manually? It should open with a little restriction but you shouldn't have to push or pull with 2 hands. Let me know, RICK
