Honda Repair: Lighting problem, lighting problem, dash lights

Question
Rick,
My son has a Accord Se not a EX would the relay be in the same place.
I'm not sure which wires in the radio touched, or really if that is what caused the dash lights not to work. I assume that putting the radio in was the problem because it started right after I installed it. Thanks, Brad-------------------------

Rick,
I tried what you suggested, but the lights still do not work. Do the dash lights have a relay that might have been burned up from the wires touching

Rick,
My son reminded me while we were installing the radio,he decided to help me by plugging in the wiring harness and removing the ends from the wires.
When he did several wires touched and made sparks. Could this have caused something to short out? All the lights on the radio come on and the lights around the odometer comes on as long the switch is on, but the lights on the dash and the lights on the gear selecter do not come on at all and the lights on the clock and odometer go off when the lights are turned on.This is my last question! Thanks for your help!

I recently installed a radio in my son's car (2000 Honda Accord) After I installed the radio in the car, the light in the clock and the light around the odometer stay's on, but when you turn the head lights on all the dash lights and the clock lights go off. Can you help me with this problem. Thanks, brad

Hey Brad, double check all your wiring on the back of the radio. Make sure you don't have the red/blk(19) or the red(9) wires mixed up or hooked up wrong. These wires control the dimming of the lights at the radio and you may be backfeeding power through them. Let me know RICK

Those lights are made to dim when the lights are turned on. I was under the assumption the ignition key was off? If they go right out you may have a dimmer switch issue. RICK

Brad, thats good info. I'm betting if you check the No.13(7.5A) fuse or the No.10(10A sedan, 15A coupe)in the passenger under dash fuse box you'll find a burnt fuse. Please let me know. RICK

Brad, on an EX model there's a taillight relay behind the right kick panel to the right of the blower motor that powers up the lights you are having issues with. Wire colours are 2:red/grn, red/blk, red/yel. Do you know which wires touched? RICK

Answer
O.K. Brad, we're going to have to go step by step. Remove the clock which is fairly simple, place a screwdriver under the clock and pry it out. Check for power at the red/blk wire with the parklights on. Let me know. Also exactly what lights are and are not on with the parklight switch on. Exterior parklights, hazard light switch, guage lights etc... This will narrow it down. RICK
