1995 Honda Civic EX
Engine Family  SHN1.6 V JGFEA
Mileage 157,449
Located in Hot Springs Arkansas

Hi Rick,

The car quit while driving in first gear.  It will crank but no spark from coil.  Fuel pump does not come on when key is turned to ON position.  Hot wired fuel pump and it works.  Verified Main relay in accordance with the Haynes Manual.  Checked fuse 31 (uhfb).  I changed out the ECU with a known good one and still nothing.  Just for good measure I replaced the coil and ICM.

CKP sensor tested 367 ohms with no continuity to ground
TDC sensor tested 365 ohms with no continuity to ground
CYP sensor tested 366 ohms with no continuity to ground

BTW when I went to get trouble codes I could not retrieve any because the check engine light wont go off and the fuel pump wont spin up.

Any Help I could get from ya would be great and thank you in advance

~Dave

Hey Dave the first thing I would do is check the ECM 15A fuse under the hood in the fuse/relay box. If its good check the ACG(ALT)(S) 15A fuse in the under dash fuse box. If its good unplug these sensors one at a time until the check engine light goes out. MAP, TP, EGR. If it goes out replace the sensor that caused it to go out. If not let me know. RICK

Good Morning Rick,
I tried unplugging the sensors and none will make the check engine light go out and the fuel systerm pressurize...Any more ideas or checks you want me to make? I have also verified the mechanical timing of the engine and it is dead on.

Disconnect "D" connector from the ECM and check for continuity between body ground and terminals D19, D20. If there's continuity you have a short to ground between ECM and MAP(D19) or between ECM and TP or EGR(D20). Check them with the sensors disconnected. If no continuity reconnect the sensors and the D connector to the ECM and turn the ign. on and measure voltage between body gnd. and terminals A26 then B2. Is there less than 1 V. No, repair open between whichever wire and G101 at the thermostat housing. Yes measure voltage between A26- and each of these B1+ and A25+. you should have battery voltage. If not you have an open in A25 or B1 between ECM and main relay. Good luck. RICK

Hi Rick,
So far no luck. I want to try to run hot wires to the PGM-FI relay since I don't have a clue as to what to do next

Answer
Dave the info I gave you checked the wiring to the main relay from the ECM. The main relay contains 2 relays. One is energized when the ign. is on and supplies batt V+ to the ECM, power to the fuel injectors, and power for the second relay. The second relay energizes for 2 sec. when the ign. is turned on and is always on when the engine is running which supplies power to the pump. I would double check that relay and the wiring in the haynes manual and make sure it all matches up. RICK
