Honda Repair: Honda blower motor and resistor, honda blower, haynes manual

Question
Honda Accord Wagon EX, 1992 with 134,000 miles from Plano, TX.

Yesterday while running the air conditioner with the blower fan on its highest setting, smoke started coming out of my dashboard vents. I turned off the fan immediately.  Later, with the car engine off and parked in my driveway, I turned the ignition switch to "on" and listened to the fan.  With the fan on its highest setting, I could hear the motor varying its speed, going faster and slower without my adjusting the fan switch.  I also found that changing the position of the fan speed switch did not necessarily change the speed of the fan.  It did not smoke this time, but I did not leave it on very long.

I've read enough to know that I don't want to tackle changing the blower motor on my own, I'll take it to a mechanic if it needs to be changed.  However, I'm wondering if the blower resistor might be bad.  I have a Haynes manual but cannot find where the resistor is located.

I'd appreciate your opinion on any likely sources of my problem, how to fix it and specifically where the blower resistor is located and how to get to it.

Thanks for your time!

Answer
Scott, the resistor is not easily accessible because I'm pretty sure it is in where the motor is. The blower resistor connector is located above the right kick panel and ia a brown 6 pin connector. As far as the "smoke" from the dash it could have been a mist that occurs when humidity is high and the a/c is cranked. This is considered normal and a way to avoid it is to run the a/c with the recirc button on. Hope this helps, RICK
