Honda Repair: 2003 Odyssey surginging idle, warranty extension, egr valves

Question
My Odyssey has started to surge at idle between 1000 and 1500 rpm. Has happened twice after refueling. If you rev up to 3000 and release it returns to normal. Also during driving when you let off the gas it bucks. Any ideas? EGR? Power Steering pressure switch?

Answer
Hi Jim, You're definitely on the right track. The first thing I would check is for a broken wire(s) at the power steering pressure switch or if you have a scan tool check what the switch is doing on the data list, if it's going on/off quickly it's the wires at the switch. As far as the EGR I haven't seen it cause fluctuating idle but it can definitely cause the surging. It is a known concern and a warranty extension has been issued (8 yr/130,000 kms.)for EGR valves in the 03 model year as long as your VIN is within the range. For the fluctuating idle I would suspect the IAC valve as the culprit. Check to see if there are any codes stored for MAP P1129 and/or IAC PO505. I have seen IAC valves fail and not set the MIL and the same goes for the EGR and PSP issues. Hope this helps.
