Honda Repair: 1990 Honda Civic DX engine idle, honda civic dx, fuel pressure gauge

Question
Bill,

Thanks for getting back to me. Don't know what happened the other 3 times but that's ok.

In my frustration, I forgot to mention that the filter has been replaced, the plugs and wires are good, and the distributor cap and rotor were replaced just prior to us purchasing the car. My husband has checked the vacuum system like you suggested and has found no leaks.

We're thinking that replacing the entire distributor is next? Expensive but it's the only thing we can think of before taking it to a mechanic to (hopefully) have it diagnosed.

It's not lacking power (when it runs) so we'll hold off on the catalytic convertor for now.

Thanks again - I appreciate it!

This is the 4th time I have tried to get my question answered. I have not heard back from either you or Chris and I'm at my wits' end with this car. Any suggestions or ideas you might have would really be appreciated.

It's a 1990 Honda Civic DX that began having idle issues occasionally a few months ago. Those issues have now progressed to a near-constant stall at low revs and idle. No error codes. Fuel injector has been replaced. Fuel pressure gauge shows normal pressure. Plugs have been replaced.

HELP! Please? I really don't want to have to fork over hundreds of dollars if this is something my husband and I can deal with in our garage. Thanks.

I am sorry about the lack of response you have had from this site.
There are several things you can check/replace to isolate the problem. Check or replace your fuel filter, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. I don't usually want to start throwing parts ($$$) at a problem, but replacing these things if they have not been replace in a while is a good idea. Check for a leak in the vacuum system. Check the emissions system although I doubt it in your emission control since you have no codes. If you are also lacking in power I would check the catalytic converter.
Hope this helps.

Not sure if I would go for the distributor just yet, but it could be a possible cause. I would check the EGR valve to make sure it is okay as that can also cause the problem. One more thing you may want to do is a compression test to make sure the head gasket is okay.
Let me know how the tests turn out.
