Honda Repair: 1990 Accord manual shifting hard, shifting gears, honda accord

Question
Hi Bill,
Thanks so much for your answers on this site. You have done a great job in answering so many peoples questions.
Last year I bought a 1990 Honda Accord with 400 000Kms on it. It had an engingine and transmission swap a year before I bought it. I have had to deal with a few of the common problems like replacing the speed sensor and gas lines, but otherwise the car has been great to me.
Since winter has arrived in Toronto I have a problem shifting gears. I have a hard time getting the shifter into any gear. To start rolling, I had to use both hands to force the stick into 2nd. Shifting gets easier as the car warms up.
I'm wondering if this is a problem of my clutch not engaging properly and the cable needs to be adjusted, the clutch being worn out, or some of the gears being worn.
I'm the only one who drives it, and I am always careful not to ride the clutch or grind the gears when shifting.
Any advice on this problem is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for your time and expertise.

Peter

Answer
Peter:
It sounds like your clutch is going out. It is strange that as the car warms the shifting gets easier. About the only other thing you may want to do is change the transmission fluid to see if that helps.
Thanks for your kind words. I hope that I have helped you also.
