Honda Repair: 89 civic si Timing, spark coil, honda civic si

Question
I was reading you message on: http://experts.about.com/q/814/4102868.htm
I own a 1989 Honda Civic Si and i am experiancing the same problems my car smokes a little, and is missing badly and continuously and it is only running on 3 cyl.  I have changed the Plugs, leads, distributor, computer and none of these have made any difference.  It starts all the time but sometimes when you turn it off and go to start it again, it wont fire at all? But when you pull off the #1 lead and then try to start it with the lead off it fires (running badly of course) then turn it off; put the lead back on and it runs the same again on 3 cyl. I had the original coils tested by pro and they said part of the spark coil was faulty, which caused it to run on the 3 cyl. but as i said we changed the distributor and the computer and still no change. I would appreciate any kind of help or information you might have to help me fix my problem and get my car running the way it should... Thanks again and I look forward to hearingm from you or anyone who can help.

Robert:
It sounds like you have replaced most everything that would cause the problem. You may want to check the timing to see if it is off, the timing belt may have jumped a tooth. Aside from that I would check the distributor that was put in to make sure it is good and was installed correctly. Check all the wiring, when you said it starts all the time and then turn it off it... it won't fire at all, problems like that usually are caused by a wire shorting out somewhere in the ignition system.
Hope this helps.
