Honda Repair: 88 Accord starter or alternator problem?, amp meter, honda accord

Question
I have an '88 DOHC, 2.O L Honda Accord, Japanese specs. I hate to give up on it since it has only 70,000 km. on it and has served me well for over ten years. I am guessing the problem is either the alternator or starter. I get a series of clicks when I try to crank it. No previous problem with it cranking but one day I had it started and had to turn off the ignition. When I tried 30 seconds later just clicking when cranked. Still had juice for lights so battery eliminated after trying to jump it with no results.
Four years ago replaced the alternator. Circumstances/symptoms seemed to be different this time. No juice or clicking when the alternator went out.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Answer
John:
My bet is on the starter. The next time the condition happens, have someone turn the key and tap on the starter with a big screwdriver, if the starter responds, replace it. You can also check to make sure you are getting juice to the starter with an amp meter.
Good luck.
