Honda Repair: civic ckf sensor, haynes manual, miss fire

Question
I have a 2000 Civic EX V-tech engine 134,000 miles . Check engine light came on, checked it with my scanner and get a P1336 and P1337 reading which is ckf sensor intermittent interuption(P1336) and ckf sensor no reading(P1337). The Haynes manual shows me how to check the sensor to see if its defective, but doesn't tell me whats wrong if the sensor is good. What does the Crankshaft Fluctuation Sensor do anyway? Also does it have to be changed right away, or can it wait. Looks like the job is involved. Thanks, Rich

Answer
Rich:
The CKF detects if there is a miss-fire in your engine. The codes that are thrown out to you are to be used a diagnostic tool, it does not necessarily tell you what is wrong, and you just have the symptom. You may have a mechanical problem that needs to be fixed; the sensor is making you aware of the problem. I would clear the code and see if it comes back, if it does then check the sensor out and if it checks okay. If the sensor is good, you should take the car in and have someone look at it as a shop usually has tens of thousands of dollars tied up in equipment that does a more through evaluation.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Good luck.
