Honda Repair: 1989 honda civic clutch, shade tree mechanic, economic option

she is slipping even in first gear at around 2500
on ramps are just about a safety issue at this point...  HELP
broke college student, high need for a car (minnesota winter is coming)

i don't know that much but i'm guessing that it's not an easy fix because she engages right about the halfway point on the pedal

what is my best economic option?
i don't have tools per say..  like an engine blocker or anything...

the dealership quoted me $985,  the car, other than this slippage, is mint mechanically...  and worth if that much ~ no more than

Yeah, it is usually about a grand to replace the clutch. The parts are about $100, but without the right tools... If you try to sell it in the current condition you will not get what it's really worth. You may try and find a shade tree mechanic and he will charge far less but you are taking a chance doing that if the guy doesn’t know what he's doing or if he breaks something else. If you replace the clutch then what if the transmission ($1500) goes out. Not a lot of good options here, I would cut my losses and buy another car. Don't worry about being broke... get used to it, it’s the American way.
