Honda Repair: Check engine Light, exhaust gas recirculation, gas cap

Question
I just failed emissions because the light is on....it said I failed because-EGR flow insufficient detected. The codes were P0401 and P1457....any idea? I dont want to take it to a dealer and pay them cuz Im broke. I would like to just be able to buy the part and do it myself. Thanks for your help. Its a 1998 accord ex V6. Thanks!

Jason

Answer
Jason:
The P0401 is exhaust gas recirculation flow malfunction and the P1457 is EVAP system leak detected (control canister). I would think if you fixed the leak in the control canister that the other code would clear up. Make sure you diagnosis the problem before you start buying parts, the canister is not cheap and it may not be the problem, you may have a bad gas cap. The codes only give you the symptom of the problem and not the cause.
Good luck.
