Honda Repair: Honda Tapping, tune ups, dependable car

Question
Hi.  I have a 1994 Honda Civic, 4 cyl., 1.5L.  It has about 125,000 miles on it.  It has been a very dependable car.  I keep up on oil changes and tune-ups.  The only past problems I have had with the car is the c/v joints going and the igniter.  Other than that the car has been great.  My current concern is when I start the car it kind of taps.  It's very loud after a cold start, but does go away after I warm the car up for about 10 minutes.  This has been going on for quite a while, at least a year and a half.  It hasn't gotten louder or worse, it's the same everyday.  It's doesn't seem as loud in the summertime, but it still does it until it's warmed up.  It doesn't run funny or anything, it just makes that loud tap until it warms up.  Any ideas?  Have you run across this on other Hondas?  I'd like to get rid of that awful sound if I could.  If you don't warm it up long enough and drive down the road, it sounds like a loud sewing machine going down the road until it warms up.  Thank you for your time and help.

Make sure you are using the correct weight oil. I think Honda calls for 5W30 and is you are using a heavier weight that would cause a tap because the oil is not circulating. The other thing would be the oil pump, you would know if when you take the oil filter off there is no oil in the filter would mean the oil pump is not working.
Good luck.
