Honda Repair: Revving problem in a 1999 Acura CL 3.0 V6, stop screw, vacuum lines

Question
I have a 1999 Acura CL V6. Recently I started it up and it idled at 2000 RPM for a while and then dropped down to 1000 and from then on it keeps on bouncing up and down from 2000 to 1000 and back up again. I have read up on a few forums and they say that it might be the high RPM screw or something like that. I also have to add that I have a 2000 Acura 3.2 TL that had the same problem. It was towed to the dealer and they kept it there for 3 days tryig to diag. the problem. When I got it back they didnt tell me what happened with it and I didnt think to ask. The only thing that I know is that I was charged a ridiculous amount of money and the fact that they did something with or around the throttle body. Any idea what this could be and a cure for it?

I thought about taking off the throttle body and cleaning it with a carb cleaner spray and a toothbrush. Like i asked earlier. I was wondering if youo could help me with this? I checked all the vaccuum lines and they are all connected and none are leaking.

The vacuum lines are the first thing I would have checked and you have already done that. The throttle body may be leaking air at the gasket and that could be causing the fluctuation in idle. If the throttle body is bad that would be a lot of money and may be that is what the dealer replaced before. The only service on the throttle body are a couple of sensors (TP and MAP), the diagnostic code may tell you if one is bad, but be careful in replacing parts, you may run into spending a lot of money and still not have it fixed since you do no have all the diagnostic equipment. I would not take the throttle body apart to clean either, there is a throttle stop screw that cannot be adjusted and there is no service to the throttle body itself unless you find an air leak. I would test the MAP sensor and the TP sensor first and replace if bad, if both are good you may be stuck taking it into a shop to diagnosis the rest of the way.
Good luck.
