Honda Repair: 96 Accord transmission question, chiltons manual, accord wagon

Question
Hi Bill,
I recently puchased a 96 Accord wagon with the VTEC, automatic, and 126,000 miles.  When driving on the highway under light load (flat) the engine speeds up by a few hundred rpm.  If I get into the throttle a little (go up a slight hill or speed up a bit) the rpm drops a few hundred rpm. Other than being a little slow shifting from 3rd to 4th at times it runs great.  Is this a sign that the lock up solenoid is going bad?  If so, can I replace it without pulling the trans?  The Chiltons manual I have only goes over how to remove and install a trans, not do any work on it. I ran some SeaFoam cleaner through it and changed the fluid, which seemed to help a bit.
Thanks for your help,
Josh

Answer
Josh:
It sounds like you are on the right course by changing the transmission fluid. As far as what is actually bad inside the tranny (lock up solenoid) I really don't know. My bet would be that the tranny would have to be re-built.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Good luck.
Bill
