Honda Repair: No tail lights, honda accord, possiblity

Question
Bill,

RE: 1987 Honda Accord -

Mechanically inclined Mom, would like to try to make repairs...without mechanic costs...if at all possible.

The tail lights do work, when the head lights are on.  I have checked the fuses and changed the bulbs.

Do you have any idea what this could possibly be?

It is necessary I try and repair this on my own, as funds are limited at this time.

My daughter recently put a new stereo in this car.  Is there a possiblity that she has unplugged something, that is related to lighting system? (under the dash)

Please advise, as she has recieved a ticket and the issue must be corrected immediately, to avoid fines.

Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated!

If you have made sure the fuses are good and the bulbs are good, then I would suspect it is in the wiring and since someone was under the dash it is possible something happened there. There is probably a short in the wiring somewhere and these are very time consuming problems. You would need a meter to be able to check all the connections to find out where the problem is. Wiring problems are some of the more difficult to figure out, I would have to suggest you find a mechanic to help. You may contact a local church to see if a member owns a shop, sometimes they work on a sliding scale. Or just call a shop and see if they would work on a sliding scale. All they can say is "no". The other thing you may ask around to see if someone does work on the side, or would be willing to look at the car for you.
Good luck.
