Honda Repair: 97 Honda Civic, honda civic ex coupe, rear brakes

Question
I know you deal with Accords.  But I have a '97 Honda civic EX Coupe and I need to know does this car come with dics rear brakes?  A mechanic told me that my rear brakes were too tight.  To adjust or tightent the back brakes will this take hours?  Also,  approxiately when should the rear brakes be replaced?

Answer
The rear brakes are drums. You can check to see if they are too tight by jacking up one of the rear wheels and try to spin, if it spins freely then they are fine. If there is any dragging, then the brakes do in fact need to be adjusted. I'm a little puzzled as to why it would take hours to adjust. There is an adjustment that on each side that should only take a matter of minutes. As for when you replace the rear brakes, they will last longer then the front disc's, I have never replaced the rear brakes, but I have adjusted them. I would think you should get 100-150K miles on a set.
Hope this helps.

I'm looking for follow-up to my answer to see how your problem turned out.
Thanks
