Honda Repair: Honda Prelude 4th to 5th Gear Change Grinds, honda prelude, prelude 2

Question
Gene

I have a Honda Prelude 2.2 SiR VTEC (JDM) (60,000 miles - just had major service) and have recently noticed when changing up from 4th to 5th gear above 5000rpm it grinds (was happening before the service).  Below 5000rpm and in all other gears it's fine.

Is this the transmission? If so how much (UK £ sterling) will it cost to fix?

Or could it be the Gear selector linkage BUSHES? again how much would this cost to fix?

Or am I way off, Please help?

Alex

Answer
Alex,
You are correct. The problem is the 5th gear syncro set, inside the transmission. The trans needs to be removed and disassembled. You will have to call your dealer and get a price. I know it is not cheap. It is a major job.
If you can live with it, and you are easy on the trans., it should last you a long time. Just be easy when shifting into 5th gear. You may want to get the trans fluid changed. Sometimes that helps a little bit.
Good luck and thanks for the question
